Blackjack is one of ??? if not the ??? most popular card games in the world. It can be found in almost all casinos, whether they are real brick and mortar, land-based casinos, or online casinos. Blackjack is also one of the simplest games for South African players to learn. In fact, you???ve probably already played it before and might not know it. It also goes by the name of Twenty-One (21). If you haven???t played blackjack before, you needn???t worry. Here???s how to play blackjack.

To begin with, the player will need to place their bet down in the betting circle provided on the table. Bets can be small or high stakes, depending on the table. Since this is your first game, we???d recommend a small stake bet.

How To Play Blackjack

Some blackjack variants change the rules about what cards are visible, but in most cases it is the way described above. Now, the objective here is to better the dealer???s hand, by getting as close to 21 points as possible without exceeding that sum.

Aces count for either 1 or 11 points in blackjack, whilst all number cards count for their numerical value, and face cards count as 10s. You can choose to stand (stick with the total you have), or hit (take another card). You must not exceed 21 points in total, though. If you do, you are considered bust and out of the game. You will also lose your bet. The dealer will normally stand on 16 or 17, depending on which blackjack game you are playing. Having an Ace and a face or ten together is considered blackjack and instantly wins you the game.

Doubling Down, Splitting And Insurance Bets

Several additional rules are available in most blackjack games for South African players. One of these side-rules is an insurance bet. If you believe the dealer has blackjack from the start, then you may be entitled to make an insurance bet, so that if he/she does have blackjack, you get a pay-out anyway.

Surrendering is another side-rule, which may or may not be in your game. When it is, the player can opt to surrender, and lose only half their bet. Some games have early surrender and others offer late surrendering. Surrendering doesn???t work if the dealer has blackjack, though.

Players may also split their hands. If they have two cards of the same value, the player can split them into two hands, for another bet of the same value as the first. Additional cards are added to the two hands to form two separate blackjack hands.

Lastly, some blackjack games will permit a player to double-down. This involves doubling your original bet, but players normally need to have an opening hand worth 9, 10 or 11 to be able to do this.

If the player beats the dealer, then they will pocket winnings of 1:1. Should the player win with blackjack (21), then they will pocket winnings of 3:2. Insurance bets offer winnings of 2:1.
